I am so glad we found this place! The Early Bird Diner rocks! I really like the funky feel of this restaurant….if it weren’t for the palmetto trees outside, you’d swear you were in Asheville. The decor is “interesting” and there’s always an “eclectic” clientele (and waitstaff). But what I like even more is the food. Yum!
Richard and I first went to Early Bird a couple months ago, and we’ve been in many times since. Ya gotta time it right at this place. On weekends, it’s packed until at least noon due to all the breakfast-aholics there. Since we’re more into lunch than breakfast, we try to hit it later in the afternoon on weekends. We’ve not yet been for dinner, but we sure want to.
What’s to love at the Early Bird? Lots. Richard keeps ordering the chicken and waffles. I keep ordering the blackened green tomato melt (hmmmm….the excellent mozzarella looks kinda like stretchy snot in that photo!). I’ve also really gone crazy over the meatloaf sandwich with caramelized onion (must order that one again soon!) and the fancy grilled cheese sandwich (get it with the tomato basil soup, if it’s available). Here’s a suggestion you’ll want to take – whatever entree you get, order the home fries as your side. The home fries are delish. And I cannot say enough about the dessert menu (oh, yeah!). The desserts all seem homemade, including an ever-changing variety of ice creams, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies, cheesecakes, and puddings. Here you see Richard’s white chocolate blueberry ice cream and my chocolate cheesecake (mmmmm).
Gotta go again sometime soon, soon, soon!

white chocolate blueberry ice cream sounds like a dream come true!!
Oh, it was! The ice creams at Early Bird are excellent. I recently had their peanut butter ice cream (may have been called something like peanut butter blast) and……oh my, it was good!
